grammy fashion 2013

I cannot believe a memo went out to the TV appearing grammy goers asking to consider their outfit choices for the night. The note read this according to the heraldsun.com.

“Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.”

Ummm – what happened to freedom of expression? And it’s NY fashion week for god’s sake – come on now.

Anyway, here are my faves. Jennifer Lopez looked like a sex goddess (can this woman be any hotter – who cares that she’s robbing the cradle, she can do whatever she wants), Kelly Rowland’s body was rocking and wore her dress instead of it wearing her (whatever she is doing for her tone arms, I need the regimen) and Beyonce can do no wrong – EVER. She is an absolute beauty and looked sophisticated, classic and completely on trend. What did you think?

fall fashion 2013

Fashion Week is in full swing and fall 2013 collections are getting my juices flowing.  Menswear inspired hits the runway in a big, bad way and I am loving how designers are maintaining enough femininity, keeping the silhouettes and draping sexy.  BCBG Max Azria, my absolute favorite show so far, “brought about a collection that was decidedly more street than sweet” according to style.com.  “It was refreshing when a few of the more pared-down pieces, including a clean mesh tuxedo tank, came down the runway.  In general, this piled-up, coat-centric look advanced a tougher, more urban version of the BCBG woman.”  I’m pretty sure I’d wear every single look in their collection.  Other trends for fall are oversize coats, turtlenecks, quilted pieces and leopard spots prevail (yay!).  The designers that I think presented wearable fashion (so far) include Billy Reid, Yigal AzrouelVeronica B. Vallenes (Copenhagen) and Rag & Bone.  Mara Hoffman killed it, but her overall color palette (for me) was a bit bright for the season.  I did die for a few things though (see below).  Things are looking really good so far and so much more to come.  J.CrewMichael Kors and Rachel Zoe in the coming days.  Exciting stuff!

This is the first time that I’ve taken a deep dive into fashion week, but within the last few months I’ve become inspired by fashion again (this blog is a result of the surge as well).  I’ve never completely departed from my obsession, but there has definitely been a period where needing to be up in it wasn’t a huge priority (life happens and sometimes our passions shift around, right?).  Well – that my friends, has passed and I am definitely back at it!  I’m excited to bring this information to you and hope you enjoy the highlights because my favorite part about this journey is the ability to take the knowledge that I gain and send it forward.  Some of my fave’s from fall 2013 below and you can click on the designers name to see complete collection and/or reviews!  I’d love to hear what you think!  Happy Fashion Week!

channeling jenna…

I tend to channel Jenna Lyon’s most days being that she is one of my style icons and I look to her for constant inspiration.  I kind of live for her and my obsession keeps growing (no judgements please!).  It’s not only that I envy her fashion sensibility, but consider her a brilliant business woman, extremely down to earth, courageous, humble and authentic – all qualities I put as priorities for myself.  She is just the best!

my boyfriend’s back…

Whether trend right or not, I have always been a huge fan of boyfriend jeans.  It just happens to be my luck that they are hugely popular for spring and I can update (as you can too!) my closet with a new pair for the season.  They are pretty much flattering on all body types (when styled properly), give off an effortlessly cool and relaxed sensibility and are extremely comfortable (bonus!).  I suggest pairing them back to a form fitting top (or tee) hitting just around your hip bone.  Nothing too long or overly slouchy since the jeans will achieve the ‘laid back’ portion of your look (you don’t want to lose your silhouette in clothes that are too baggy from head to toe).  Include a second layer such as a blazer or cardigan, accessories (if you wish) to add further femininity, perform the half tuck (styling detail to add to the sexy – see below for half tuck visual reference), scrunch up sleeves and you are ready to go!  Get. Them. Now.
