Hello everyone and happy Monday! I am back on the east coast after returning from a most wonderful trip to Maui, HI. Before leaving I mentioned that I’d most likely come back inspired from the sun, sand, sea and island style goodness – and as promised that is exactly what has transpired. Enter Maui Girl Swimwear, maui’s number one swimwear boutique introduced to me via yoga instructor, maui resident and friend Jessica Fertig. I’ve missed out for years on the amazing-ness of this brand and spent a pretty penny playing catch up while on holiday. I’m thinking you may do the same. I checked this place out on day one and went back for seconds towards the end of my trip. Hawaii (I now know) is swimsuit heaven. Like us New Yorkers who live in our jeans, the island gal’s uniform is her bikini – it’s her main stay fashion staple. Maui Girl boutique was just the spot to update my swimwear wardrobe and here is the lowdown on why.
Maui Girl offers a plethora of styles and cuts to help you look like the ultimate island beach babe – and the fabric is durable and secure (it’s hawaii – most of these girls are either surfing, paddle boarding or doing some other type of water sport – things need to remain in place!). You can find silhouettes that are narrow and more revealing yet still provide the lift you need (victory!). Or if you want more coverage – that is available too. And then there’s the bottoms. Do yours ever dig into your (ahem) love handles? Do you hate that as much as I do? Maui Girl is cut to perfection – they use the appropriate specs, fabrication and level of elastic so that you’re not ‘spilling over’. And like the swim tops – there are shapes and styles for whatever your preference. Offered in a spectrum of print & color with the option to mix & match separates, this brand is your answer – you will thank me later. Sizing is pretty standard. The shop carries other designers such as colombian brand Maaji (which can only be purchased in store), but their own label is available via website or phone and can be shipped directly to you. A few styles I picked up were this, this and this.
The company has been in business for over 30 years, located in a town called paia. Debbie Kowalski Wilson, the founder, owner and designer lives in maui where she creates from her north shore beach house with a view of the sea (no wonder she’s so inspired!). What began as a brand that sold vintage reconstructed pieces in the 70’s, Maui Girl turned over to bikinis in the early 80’s. Thankfully for us!
Get the goods here and stock up before the summer season – you won’t want to miss out!
And stay tuned for my follow up post on “cheeky” brazilian cut swimwear bottoms later this week. I will share with you my epiphany on how less is definitely more!
Happy Shopping! xx #yoursoulstyle
