summer baby

This Summer has reinforced how much I love (and need to be by) the sea.  It recharges, reboots, and (literally and figuratively) washes my stress away.  I’m certain it’s because I entered the universe on July 1st and am a Summer baby.  Living on the east coast provides easy access to water, but the concrete jungle can sometimes make it feel far, even if this concrete jungle is an island no less.  We try and take advantage of all beach-going opportunities, but no matter the amount, it’s never enough.  With that being said, the beach is on the agenda for Sunday, and I’ll be heading back to Montauk come Monday for mini getaway.  What are you doing this beautiful August weekend?  I hope it’s something good that makes you as happy as the ocean makes me.  Cheers to the beach!  And to Summer!

trend: emerald

According to The New York Fall 2014 Runway Report by Harpers Bazaar, the color green (emerald specifically) is trending.  Although I usually stick to neutrals, I could get into this.  It’s neutral’ish and works on most skin tones since it’s a saturated hue, especially if your pale in the colder months like me.  My roundup of pieces includes this Tibi cami that I’d likely layer under chunky sweaters, a faux suede moto jacket from Mango, and an oversize cozy sweater, jumpsuit and midi skirt from Zara.  Accessories that live on the splurge wishlist are Isabel Marant boots, a Chloe marcie bag, and fedora from Maison Michel. Happy almost weekend!  xx

in the words of carrie…

At some point or another we’ve all channeled Carrie Bradshaw be it emotionally or through fashion, usually relating to at least one or the other, (or both) right?  I was between the ages of 18-25 during the original Sex and the City series and was constantly inspired by the creations that Patricia Field put together for our beloved quintessential NYC fashion gal.  As a budding stylist during that time, I couldn’t wait for each week (and season) to pass to see what she came up with next.  The more far-out the better and I appreciated the risk-taking, individualism and creativity.  Still taking cues 10 years later (and from Leandra Medine, the real life version of Carrie Bradshaw), I decided to try out the old scarf-around-the-arm styling technique to add interest to this wear-with-everything black cotton jumpsuit by Brooke Coleman.  The scarf, which my mama handed down to me a few weeks back from her mother, added meaning beyond just its aesthetic value.  I’m also a total sucker for a jumpsuit, especially this one which is SO comfortable that I’ve been living in it all summer.  More on this jumpsuit and Brooke Coleman later (stay tuned for a Spotlight Feature in the coming weeks!).  In the meantime, in the words of Carrie Bradshaw herself, “So many roads. So many detours. So many choices. So many mistakes.”  But in reality, the biggest mistake, is being too afraid to make one at all.  Even when it comes to your style.
