sexy sweats

sexy sweats 2I put this photo on instagram over the weekend and after a friend commented that she “must own these pants”, along with another chiming in, “agreed”, I decided to put together a post.  Sweatpants are now a staple in my wardrobe since traditional silhouettes have evolved to slimmer and more fashion-forward fits.  While I understand that weekend days are a time to kick back, there is no reason why you can’t be comfortable and still look good!  The ones I’m wearing are H&M from last season with limited sizes left, but here’s a few current styles that will surely do the trick.

splurge vs. steal: denim

spring denim

I have been gushing about GAP boyfriend jeans for a while now, like we discussed here.  Needless to say, I have literally not taken them off my body ALL WINTER LONG!  It’s just too easy to grab them from my closet chair in the morning when one eye is half open and I need to throw together a comfortable and easygoing ensemble.  With spring close by (thank god!), I’m looking for my next go-to pair and after perusing the likes of net-a-porter and shopbop where designer styles average around $200, landed myself right back at GAP coveting these at $69.95 each.  In case you need help with the math here, that’s basically three pairs for the price of one!  For real.  Mega steal, no?  These will definitely become closet staples in my spring wardrobe so don’t be surprised when you spot me here wearing all three as such…

Happy shopping & weekend! xx jenny

shear genius

tumblr_mxi3s8Iui21rm66sdo1_1280Although it’s a brand new year, we still have three looooong months of cold weather ahead of us.  I’m inspired by this Isabel Marant’ish look and loving obsessing over the shearling coat!  This ensemble simultaneously reads edgy, bohemian and cozy which is a mega win in my book!

Style Tip:  Wear a sexy tank underneath the sweatshirt to easily transform this winter outfit from day to night.  Plus, it will give you an extra layer of warmth!

PS: Does anyone know who makes the above coat???  I can’t find it on the interweb and need it in my life.  I’m assuming it’s a vintage one-of-a-kind.  Confessions of a shopaholic!  Happy Monday!  xx jenny

“throw a scarf on it”

final photoIn a Portlandia episode spoofing me – we’d be “throwing a scarf on it” rather than “putting a bird on it” (this is a must view!).  Everyone’s got their thing and scarves are mine.  Most days if you don’t see it draped around my neck – you’ll find one in my handbag ready to pull out at a moment’s notice.  They’re one of my all time favorite accessories and with the recent hint of cooler temperatures, I can barely contain my excitement.  Cozier fabrics, rich colors and fresh prints are on the horizon.  In the photo above I wear a 70’s vintage hand-me-down via mama Greenstein, but I recently scooped up this one from Zara as a trendy alternative.  Scarves fulfill both fashion and function objectives adding personality to your overall look while keeping you warm and toasty.  If you live in warmer climate, opt for light fabrics like cotton or silk.  I’m sure you already have one (or many!) from last season, but in case you need a refresher…

style, naturally

DSC_0450 - Version 2Inspired by this post written by Leandra Medine from The Man Repeller, I decided to approach my outfit yesterday from the same perspective, wearing clothes that felt relaxed, comfortable and effortless.  I admittingly spend too many days analyzing my (overflowing) closet with rumblings in my mind of, “I have nothing to wear”.  In these moments I find it’s best to go back to the basics.  It’s when I can stop over thinking it that I feel my best.  Don’t be mistaken – I advocate for taking time to invest into your style.  But I also know what it’s like when things aren’t flowing naturally and you wind up with a mountain of clothing on your bed because, “nothing is working”.  When you’ve tried on endless combinations and even the exact outfit you wore last week feels completely different!  What the F?  Follow your instincts and be aware of which day today is.  Know your mood, your energy and stop trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.  Last nights leather pants may have brought out your inner rock star, but your favorite jeans today (in a less obvious way) could do the same thing!
