weekly finds: all things denim

weekly finds_3.20.15

Whether it’s to work, on the weekends, date night, or (these days) even to a broadway show, denim is a fabric that we all seem to gravitate to. Jeans are versatile and go with just about everything. They are the perfect antidote to our polished pieces, and add just enough edge and relaxation to whatever you pair them with. Like the Australians say, they help to “rug it up”. Now that denim is one of the trending fabrics for spring, retailers are busting at the seams with new iterations of our beloved favorites. I’ve pulled together a few styles for this Weekly Finds post that I’m coveting. And no need to worry about purchasing anything too trendy. Denim will live on forever. I promise. Happy shopping, and weekend!

SHOP: ALL THINGS DENIM

Swap out your full length denim for a skirt this spring/summer. I’m loving this, this and this one, all from A.P.C. And I really love this longer, 70’s inspired version from H&M.

These Rag & Bone denim shorts are pricy, however you know you’re going to live in them all summer long. So they definitely would be worth the cost. These Madewell ones are super cute too though, and a quarter of the price! And how could I forget these Levi’s when doing a post on denim!

This Zara denim shorts jumpsuit is probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I’m thinking it may even work with a baby bump. Maybe even this dress too.

Wear your denim to work with this Asos denim print dress style.

If you follow me along on instagram, you would have seen that I’m jonesing for a pair of maternity bell bottoms. Well, I haven’t found any yet, but have been dreaming about this pair from MIH.

These Madewell overalls are so good that I want to buy them now in what I predict my post baby size to be.

I imagine wearing this Splendid shirtdress running on errands and then having it double as my beach cover-up.

If you’ve been searching for the perfect fitting denim jacket, in the perfect wash, it’s right here at Madewell. The chambray shirt is pretty spot on too.

If you’re more into an oversized fit like me, this Asos denim jacket may be even better suited for you.

White denim is always in style, and I’m loving this Current/Elliot iteration of the classic pencil skirt.

I’m crying that I can’t wear these Michael Kors chambray wide leg pants this season. Wha!

Celebrate your inner hippie with this Zara denim embroidered dress or this one from Topshop.

Inspirational dressing is no easy accomplishment when you’re pregnant. Shapes are limited, and while I do like creatively interpreting trends and silhouettes, the assortment is much, much smaller. With that said, the ever-so-popular denim on denim look (see above) is one that can easily be enjoyed by all body types, whether expecting or not. I love the oversized button-down, paired with detailed denim, and chunky brown braided sandals combo which update this classic head-to-toe ensemble into an on-trend 70’s inspired one.

Get the above look with an oversized button-down from Sundry, a pair of straight leg denim from Baldwin Denim (slim maternity boyfriends from H&M for the mamas-to-be) and these two-tone sandals from See by Chloe.

And a few other ideas to inspire you…

the boyfriend 2.0

Rag & Bone

I posted this photo on instagram last week, wearing new Rag & Bone jeans which I captioned, “will likely never leave my body”.  Because it’s not a secret that finding jeans you love is no small feat.  It’s every woman’s life long shopping mission to find the perfect, never-take-off-my-body pair, and it could take months, albeit years to actually locate them.  Ya know, the ones where you can wear with heels and flats, during the day and night, that are equal parts comfortable and sexy, and which you never have to wash because they always keep their shape?  Um, yeah – this is what my denim dreams are made of.  My typical daily dose of denim is an oversized boyfriend pair, the popular silhouette that exploded last year.  Lately though, I’ve been coveting ones with the same relaxed boyfriend-y sensibility, but with more sexiness.  Still slouchy and definitely not “skinny”, but a straighter, more legit masculine cut.  I also wanted full length instead of the typical boyfriend ankle.

Enter the Dre – Armitage by Rag & Bone.  As I slid them up my body in the dressing room, I immediately knew that me and this pair of denim had a long-term relationship ahead of us.  Not only were they exactly the fit I’ve been searching for, but they hugged my legs in all the right places, didn’t squeeze my waist, were still sexy, comfortable, and the wash was on point.  Worth every dime, this is one of those instances like we’ve discussed about investment pieces.  I’m not saying every single pair of jeans you own should be expensive.  But for the PERFECT PAIR, the sky’s the limit.  You can’t put a price on pants you’ll live in.  Literally.

The Dre comes in a variety of washes including white.  Pop on over to Rag & Bone and give them a go.  I promise you won’t be disappointed.

overjoyed for overalls

If you would have asked me when I was 8 yrs old to wear a pair of overalls I would have looked at you as if you had ten heads.  I imagine my 8 year old self saying something along the lines of, “Are you joking?  Those are so not me!  Way too boy’ish and not girly enough – not my style”.  To give you context, I was the little girl who meticulously spent hours on end picking out Barbie’s looks and overalls were not part of the assortment.  They were more suitable for Punky Brewster groupies riding bikes with pig tails and different color socks.

Well…..now I’m 33, it’s 25 years later (gasp!) – and truth be told I have a complete and utter new appreciation for this denim onesie.  Who woulda thunk it – oh how times have changed!  About 2 months ago I was perusing instagram and saw a photo of Leandra Medine (photo below) from ManRepeller rocking a pair and I fell off my metaphorical chair.  She was able to pull a look together that not only looked super stylish and chic – but ultra femme and sexy!

I was on a mission from that point on to find a pair and my timing must have been dead on because I stumbled upon these at yoox in exactly my size.  I immediately scooped them up and now they are happily living in my closet!

look of the week: summer lovin’

There is something about this look that’s so incredibly perfect.  The white top eludes a feeling of walking on air, denim cut off shorts perfectly broken in, flats worn from day into night because they are practical, yet chic.  I imagine wearing this on a warm summer day while shopping a flea market, then going straight to an early dinner (dining al fresco of course) to enjoy a margarita and watch the sun go down with my nearest and dearest – all while chatting about life and love.  Early to bed and hopefully a beach day to follow.  Oh summer – where art thou?  Similar here.
