do good, feel good, look good

Boyfriend jeans are a constant in my life and I have retired the skinny fit for well over the past six months.  A combination of a few extra pounds, the increasing humidity, plus the simple fact that as I age, I’m more interested in being comfortable.  While I always like to be pulled together and pay attention to my style, comfort is key.  In addition to this Rag & Bone pair, my Gap boyfriend jeans are also a major player in my wardrobe.  I probably wear them too much, and don’t wash them enough – but this is the kind of denim that gets better with age.  Flattering on most body types, super comfortable, and with the option of being both dressed up and down, I recommend scooping up a pair  – I promise, you will love.  Unfortunately the white just sold out online but other washes are available.  If you’re jones’ing for the white, check your local Gap store.  Style Tip: Size down as they run big and tend to stretch.

You should know that Gap was built on the philosophy by its founders Doris and Don Fisher to “do more then sell clothes”.  The company is committed to socially responsible practices such as energy efficiency, conservation measures, waste reduction and establishes programs like P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement & Career Enhancement) which offers “female garment workers the life skills education and technical training they need to advance at work and in life”.  Read more about the company’s commitment to conscious, do-good initiatives here.

splurge vs. steal: denim

spring denim

I have been gushing about GAP boyfriend jeans for a while now, like we discussed here.  Needless to say, I have literally not taken them off my body ALL WINTER LONG!  It’s just too easy to grab them from my closet chair in the morning when one eye is half open and I need to throw together a comfortable and easygoing ensemble.  With spring close by (thank god!), I’m looking for my next go-to pair and after perusing the likes of net-a-porter and shopbop where designer styles average around $200, landed myself right back at GAP coveting these at $69.95 each.  In case you need help with the math here, that’s basically three pairs for the price of one!  For real.  Mega steal, no?  These will definitely become closet staples in my spring wardrobe so don’t be surprised when you spot me here wearing all three as such…

Happy shopping & weekend! xx jenny

swap meet

jennyRemember this post when I told you about this coat? Well – it came, but quickly so it went. After arriving by way of London via farfetch.com, they accidentally had sent the wrong size! It was a disappointing moment in the Greenstein-Weisberger household since it had traveled across the Atlantic and was unavailable in the States. While waiting to exchange it for the right size and mulling over if I should just return it all together, I happened upon this. Cheaper than the Malene Birger and similar in silhouette, it felt like a sign to let the other one go. So I did, and had a few extra bucks in my pocket, to boot. Here is the coat from Zara that I swapped it for, paired with the boyfriend jeans I wear endlessly and topped off with some bling.

style, naturally – part II

weekend wear_final_1Happy Monday!  Remember this post discussing effortless style?  Nothing beats it – wearing easy and laid back ensembles that you feel confident in.  Dina and I have made it a ritual to hit up the farmers market on Saturday mornings.  We go pretty early to avoid crowds and the last thing I want at that hour is to a) think and b) be uncomfortable.  But I also don’t want to look like I rolled out of bed.  You feel me, right?  These “sexy boyfriend jeans” from GAP are perfect for these days.  Relaxed and roomy, yet (like their name says), “sexy”.  Pairing them with my go-to, (haven’t taken them off my feet) Zara booties and moto jacket also helps alleviate the shlump-factor.  I feel like I’m in my pajamas without actually being in my pajamas.  There are ways, my friends.  There are ways.  Comfortable + stylish = mission accomplished.

the “new” gap

Gap-Fall-2013-Collection-Pictures

If you are part of my generation (born in ’79) then you have at some point been a loyal GAP shopper.  I remember when they opened in my hometown I was over the moon.  It quickly became a staple spot for back-to-school basics and I’m pretty sure that at least 60% of my wardrobe was GAP in the early 90’s.  I’m still a fan, picking up styles like the new ‘sexy boyfriend‘ jean from this spring, but from an overall retail perspective they have missed the mark for the past few years and the brand identity has become a little, ahem – schizophrenic.  In speaking with a few people that I know at the company – GAP is getting back to its roots (and groove) of fashionable all american prep.   They have been working towards re-establishing themselves as the go-to destination we’ve all grown to know and love for the classics.  Rebekkah Bay, the companies new Creative Director may even be the new rival to J.Crews Jenna Lyons according to Connie Wang from Refinery29.  This coming fall we’re about to see this new vision and collection come to life.  Here are a few of my favorites from the fall 2013 look book.  What do you think?  xx #yoursoulstyle  *photo credit: here and here
