what i wore: weekend event

Hello and happy Tuesday! This past weekend we had a family affair that consisted of three separate events: a Friday night dinner, a Bar Mitzvah ceremony followed by lunch on Saturday, ending with another dinner Saturday night. My goal when coordinating for this was to style three unique looks that catered to the feel of each party. Friday night was an opportunity to bring a little sass since it had a meet & greet, cocktail’y vibe. Saturday day needed to be more conservative since the Bar Mitzvah took place in temple (shoulders covered). And once Saturday night rolled around I knew I’d be done with heels so sought out something super comfy yet still chic! Here’s a breakdown of all of the looks (with a few substitutions for pieces that are unavailable) and me on instagram in two out of the three. Do you have an event coming up that you need help shopping for? A wedding? Cocktail party? Vacation? Reach out and contact me directly at yoursoulstyle@gmail.com for personal styling inquires. xx jenny

surf-chic: part 2

the man repellerPiggy-backing on this post from yesterday, here’s another take on surf chic.  All white from head-to-toe wreaks of breezy beach-style, but the second layer adds just enough polish for the office.  Plus – as far as shoes go, you can’t get any more comfortable than Birkenstocks.  Lose the blazer and throw on a red lip for after work cocktails.  Shop it here….

work it: printed pants

zara printed trousers

Hello and happy friday! Just like the leather skirt from this post, these zara printed pants are versatile enough for both work and weekend. For the office, try pairing with an embellished sweater, a tailored blazer and metallic flats which are sure to become a closet staple through the season. For weekend styling, take things up a notch with a cropped silk tee (or full length for those who want coverage), ankle-cuff pumps, statement earrings and a bold clutch. Work it! Have a great weekend! xx jenny

in the nude…

Screen Shot 2013-05-06 at 6.04.17 PM

A few weeks back one of my favorite lifestyle bloggers, Sarah Yates from A House in the Hills (pictured above) mentioned in this post how nude shoes can “make your legs look like they go on for a million miles”.  Seems her and I are style vibin’ because I’d been queueing up a post covering the same topic!  The color nude is relative.  For caucasion women it’s a peach tone whereas for other races and ethnicities the shade of ‘nude’ varies.  Here is the low down on how you could look your best ‘in the nude’ no matter what color you are!

style tip:  how to get legs for days?  Whatever your skin tone – wearing shoes that match back to it will create an illusion of a longer and leaner silhouette.  This happens because there is no pause (or break) for the eye to rest at, keeping the line of sight continuous with no interruption.  Since the shade of the shoe is consistent with the color of your skin – it tricks the brain to “believe” it’s an extension of your own leg and your shoe (or ankle strap) doesn’t wind up cutting you off.  Genius, right?  This style tip greatly benefits the vertically challenged or for those of us that just want a slimmer appearance.  No matter what your body type really – it’s a win!  Here’s a visual tutorial.

Screen Shot 2013-05-21 at 7.25.42 PM This tip has been used by us fashion stylists for years and one that I had to share with you.  It’s a little trick we keep in our back pockets but one that should be shouted from the roof tops!

Here are some other benefits…

  • This tip applies to both flats and heels
  • Nude shoes go with any outfit hence ‘neutral’ – yipee!
  • Nude (neutral) shoes are trend right so finding the right match up to your skin tone should be a breeze!   Be sure to get as close to your own color as possible!
  • Gold is a close second to nude for most skin tones and can facilitate the same results

…and an edit of a few faves from spring/summer ’13.  Shop the above dresses here and here.
