weekend reform

Screen Shot 2013-04-17 at 10.07.46 PM

It’s Friday – finally!  We’ve made it and the weekend is here.  Hope you all have something enjoyable planned and are spending time with your favorite people.  Rounding out my week of shopping posts – I thought I’d offer you a final tip to take you into the weekend.

I happened upon reformation when I was shopping the LES  (LES = lower east side) for my pre-wedding dinner outfit.  I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going for however I knew I wanted to look edgy (black was a must) to counter the white dress that would happen the next night.  So alas – reformation appeared.  Choices galore – between the backless jumpsuits and plunging neckline maxi dresses I was like a kid in a candy store.  I wound up with this gem, felt perfect and certainly achieved my fashion goal for the night – reformation had done me right.  With no question I had found exactly what I had been looking for.  On top of them carrying a stellar fashion collection from an aesthetic point of view, it is “an environmentally sustainable fashion brand that repurposes vintage and surplus materials.  Their collection is made locally in the New York and Los Angeles studios, and sold directly to their stores at fair prices”  Get the full story here.  Head over to the site if you’re not native to NYC or LA because they ship throughout the US, free on orders over $50.  It’s kind of a win all around, right?

Here are some of my favorites that I’m coveting from the spring/summer collection.

Have a great one and see you next week!!  xx  #yoursoulstyle

pump up the volume

When I stumbled upon these zara combined court pumps I had a mini heart attack – they spoke to me.  I’m a sucker for ikat anything!  Somewhere in zara heaven (or in spain where the home office is) the designers created these little gems.  They are a combined classic and bohemian, have the most perfect heel height (especially for you city dwellers who walk everywhere) and are a mere $79!  Yes, you heard that right.  It’s easy to go neutral when it comes to footwear (this said by the queen of black – me), but how about starting with these as your ‘wow’ factor and then choosing your top and bottom second!  Shoes don’t have to be the add ons – why not make them the star?   “But Jenny, these pumps are too busy – what do I wear them with?”  I’ve got you covered my fellow fashionistas and have pulled together complete head-to-toe options to prove how versatile these puppies can be!

If I haven’t convinced you yet, zara has over 100 more choices – all of which are mostly under $100!  Take a peek!  And for all you cynics out there, they make incredibly comfortable shoes which also have a long shelf life.  My most favorite black booties that I’ve worn to death for the past 5 years and have never had to bring to the cobbler are from there.

Happy shopping!  xx

spring it on

Not sure about you but I cannot wait for spring.  Being a New Yorker I’ve learned to deal with the winter months – but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish it was warm all year round.  Winter fashion is dynamic because of the layers and coziness but by March I’ve had it.  Are you as over it as I am?  Here are a few looks pulled from the spring 2013 shows to inspire and get you ready – each perfect for weekend, date night or work.  I’ve combed through the interweb to find affordable replicas and you may even have a few of these pieces hanging in your closet already!

Enjoy! xx

fashion: the ying and yang of it

All throughout fashion week there are tons of ‘street style’ photographs infiltrating the interweb – editors, fashion bloggers, designers, socialites galore dripping in stellar outfits. Because I approach style from a wearable perspective – I enjoy these more than the looks that traipsed down the runway. Not that I don’t have an appreciation for a good fashion show (I totally do!) – but am more interested in style that I can relate to which occurs more frequently on the street than on the runway. One of the most prominent styling techniques ‘on the street’ is the ‘draping of the coat over shoulder’.  Even in the snowstorm and brisk cold at NYFW – there was no denying fashion trumped function. Me, sometimes, mostly unpractical about my outfit choices (I wear pointy toe heels in 25 degree weather and a 3/4 sleeve cocoon coat in park city, utah), loved it!  The ying side of me (controlled, pragmatic, predictable) thinks this is a ridiculous styling nuance – likely annoying, pointless and counterproductive to wearing a coat, but the yang of me (illogical, unrealistic, anarchist) is winning the tug of war and will most certainly triumph the fight. You will see me with a coat on my shoulders sometime soon. Haters don’t hate.

look of the week: summer lovin’

There is something about this look that’s so incredibly perfect.  The white top eludes a feeling of walking on air, denim cut off shorts perfectly broken in, flats worn from day into night because they are practical, yet chic.  I imagine wearing this on a warm summer day while shopping a flea market, then going straight to an early dinner (dining al fresco of course) to enjoy a margarita and watch the sun go down with my nearest and dearest – all while chatting about life and love.  Early to bed and hopefully a beach day to follow.  Oh summer – where art thou?  Similar here.
