red ready!

IMG_9424Two weeks ago photographer Candy Kennedy and I worked on a test shoot with beautiful model, Laura Williams.  Like I mentioned here and here, red is where it’s at this season and I’m totally diggin’ this sweater dress in one of the looks from the day.  I styled Laura in a ‘wear to work’ vibe, but swapping out the booties for a stiletto and throwing on a moto jacket would easily up the sexy and make this look date night ready!  If it was me, I’d add a giant scarf too!  xx jenny

I have been eye’ing these See by Chloe booties for weeks and finally pulled the trigger – they are in route to my house, oh yeah!  An investment for fall but like I mentioned here, certain items are worth the expense – boots one of them in my shopping rule book.  These should take me through a few seasons, hitting both fashion and function objectives.  I’m loving the trending chunky heel which will prove to be comfortable for traipsing around the city.  The gold hardware satisfies my edgy side while the sleek silhouette keeps things sexy and classic.  Similar styles like this from Pour La Victoire, these amazing cut out booties by Tibi and these from Steve Madden are also pretty sweet.  I have outfit ideas coming out of my ears which are looking something like this…

sale’ing through summer…

rachel love

Hello friends!  I hope you had an awesome long july 4th weekend and were able to relax while spending time with friends, family, lovers and babes – bbq’s, fireworks, beach – what’s better than that?  You’ll have to forgive me for falling off the earth last week, but work got cray and I was feeling overwhelmed.  I’ve had a rejuvenating few days off and am back, ready to carry-on!  I needed a minute to step away in order come back stronger and clearer with some fresh perspective and creativity.  Make sure to pause and take a breath when necessary – it’s nourishing for the mind, body and soul!

Okay – so let’s get to it!  Since fall fashion is hitting stores – I’m sure you’ve noticed that summer product is majorly on sale (e-mails flooding your inbox yet??).  My advice is to stock up on the classics bypassing the uber trends you’ve had your eye on from the beginning of the season.  Although super pretty and compelling with the new 50% off price tag, these will likely be yesterday’s news by next summer.   By then you’ll be over it and want the new and current trend for spring/summer ’14.  Trust me – I’ve exhausted this method and hopefully learned my lesson.  Too many unworn items with tags still on in the donation pile  – has this ever happened to you?  I’ve been virtual shopping on my favorite site shopbop and found a few things I’ve dumped into my cart that I’ll certainly wear for years to come.  If you need any advice on pulling the trigger on something you’ve been coveting – reach out and I’ll be glad to help!  Happy sale’ing!  xx jenny

Have a great day, stay tuned for a stellar fall preview later this week and find me on instagram and pinterest for even more soulful style inspiration!

pink and red – a clash course

884a226cc35695890b97a478904bac80

Monday, Monday.  And gloomy here too on the east coast – but what a beautiful weekend, right?  I guess I can take a rainy Monday if it means that we have two days of sheer beauty on Saturday and Sunday.  I hope you all had a great weekend and got to spend time outside.  Late last week I started thinking about pink and red.  I wanted so badly to wear these two colors to dinner on Saturday night to only realize that the majority of my wardrobe consists of neutrals (note to self: start buying color!)  I wound up in dark plaid and am now on a mission to find a few pink and red pieces to incorporate into my wardrobe!  Some feel this combination could head into clash-ville, but I’m here to change those naysayers minds (or at least give you the low down!)

Pink and red live in the warm family on the color wheel.  This means that they are “associated with daylight or sunset” according to the color theory.  They sit directly next to each other on the spectrum because of the similarity in tone.  As a visual merchandiser who has spent the last 10+ years working in retail, pink and red almost always sit side by side on a table top item progression to avoid harsh color contrast and a choppy presentation of color.   Warm colors flow beautifully with ease and are gentle on the eyes.

With head to toe (of the same) color trending in a major way this season, pink and a red is another option if the one color look isn’t for you.  So what do you think?  Have I convinced you?  How about trying this… *above photo via here
