fashion weeks a’coming

3.1 phillip limWe’re just upon fall yet about to see the spring/summer 2014 collections in fashion week which kicks off again next Thursday here in NYC.  It feels like yesterday when just a newbie at blogging, was covering my fav’s from the 2013 shows.  I’ve worked in the industry for a long time and have learned to toggle between seasons – usually strategizing on the current assortment while simultaneously planning for what’s next.  Before our mind fast-forwards toward spring/summer 2014 – let’s enjoy what we can wear now be it military, grunge, leather, an oversized coat, camouflage or the color red!  Here’s a few featured looks (and trends) from earlier this year to get you inspired!  xx jenny

spotlight: isabel marant for h&m

Even when I think I have my finger on the fashion pulse, I get a surprise text from a friend and an e-mail like this with a headline reading “Isabel Marant for H&M”.  This is thrilling news since Marant’s effortlessly chic, parisian influenced designer duds will now be available at affordable price points that we all can indulge in.  If you don’t think you know Isabel Marant you are most likely mistaken.  Have you noticed wedge sneakers and the slim fitting “dressed up” sweatpant on every fashionista around?  Yup – Isabel Marant is the pioneer behind these uber trends.  Her own label is relaxed and wearable and she states the H&M collaboration “is infused with this kind of easiness and attitude. Everything can be mixed following one’s own instincts: my take on fashion is all about personality.”  Available on November 14th in 250 stores nationwide and online,  this collection is sure to be chock full of pieces that you will definitely want to check out.  I don’t think we’ll be disappointed.  More to follow on this soon, I’m sure – I’ll let you know as soon as I do!

Have a great weekend everyone.  xx #yoursoulstyle

perfect popover…

Screen Shot 2013-05-13 at 10.42.53 AM

It is unlikely that I will buy this jcrew collection popover because there is about a 4-6 week window where the weather allows for it (think early fall and spring) and I simply cannot rationalize spending the $400 for something with such little wearability.  It will either be too cold or too hot and this piece is just too pretty to spend the majority of its lifespan tucked away in my closet!  And let’s be real, it is certainly pricey for a top.  BUT….I am fawning over it – it’s my version of design perfection.  Super stylish, comfortable, can be worn with anything and provides a boho and ethnic sensibility (which lends itself to my personal style).   Let’s play dress up anyway – sometimes we don’t need to spend a lot of money to take something beautiful, be inspired by it and create our own iteration.  I know that’s my plan!  xx #yoursoulstyle

In a few weeks my wife and I are fortunate enough to travel down to Maui to visit friends Jessica and Grayson (founders of Gypset Wellness), who moved there back in January.  Jess and Gray have informed me that I should pack casual, laid back pieces (i.e., shorts, tanks and tees) since local Hawaiian style is ‘surf’ inspired and not dressy – at all!  Think Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.  I’m in a bit of a fashion conundrum since I’m not your typical sporty beach babe but want to “When in Rome” it.  So what’s the solve?  It is so important that we stay true to ourselves through style expression while also having the flexibility to adapt to changing environments.  Without compromising personal style and still ensuring to be location ready – there is always a fashion-friendly medium.  Here’s a few items in my mental shopping cart that cover both the fashion and function bases.  *above photo via here
