When Hey Mama approached me about contributing a personal essay on motherhood and same-sex parenting, I was eager to write my story but requested we put the offer on hold because I wasn’t ready to write it. I didn’t have the appropriate time to dedicate to something so personal. The conversation remained fresh in my mind though, and as life continued to settle down, I circled back with Hey Mama to see if they were still interested. Luckily they were and since Mother’s Day was coming up (first one for me!), we agreed it would be the perfect time. Nervous to put the proverbial pen to paper, the words poured out of me. I’ve written hundreds of blog posts, answered many interview questions, and contribute content to a bunch of different websites, but this essay, which is near and dear to my heart, is one that I’m super proud to share.
