Today begins my 34th week of pregnancy, and while slowing down is inevitable as my body continues to feel the affects (including swollen ankles, achy feet, an extra 30 lbs. and counting, constant trips to the bathroom and compromised sleep), I stay committed to keeping personal style on point. Like I tell my clients, there are strategies for maintaining fashion and function simultaneously, but it definitely takes some extra thought. I understand the need to be comfortable, but we mustn’t throw in the towel when it comes to our efforts towards getting dressed. Pregnancy is a vulnerable time, and self-care is essential. It’s easy to give-up on our changing body, get lazy and focus on the new baby. But I can’t stress enough how critical it is for women to take care of themselves. Get a prenatal massage, facial, a blowout, meditate, practice yoga, go shopping and take pride in your self-expression and presentation! If it means putting aside an extra 10 minutes before bed to pick out your clothes, make sure it happens. Don’t compromise your style from the inside out. How you feel in your skin and body matters. When we feel strong and beautiful we become empowered, and all of that goodness gets infused into the babe on the way! If you need help getting there, check out my pre/postnatal styling package service for some support!
Style The Bump Tip(s): The dress I wear in this post was another great non-maternity find from Zara, and while I sized up to ensure it provided enough coverage, it’ll still fit post babe – perhaps just slightly a little big. It’ll be perfect for those days right after giving birth too, especially since a button down provides ease when nursing. Yes – I get that my shoes are high, but I threw a pair of flats in my bag for an easy swap out if they became too uncomfortable. For going to dinner (by car) and getting in and out with minimal walking, they were fine. The platform worked as opposed to a stiletto because it’s less of an incline.
